About the artist
Direct contact with the chosen motif and the changing light is fundamental to his practice.
Petro Popovskyi is a Ukrainian painter and a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the International Association of Art (IAA). He was born in 1950 in the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine.
For many years he lived and worked in Odesa. Since 2022, he has lived and continued his artistic practice in North Rhine-Westphalia, where the nature and architecture of the Eifel region opened a new chapter in his work.
Landscape and still life are central to his practice. He paints exclusively from life, observing how colour, space and natural light shape the atmosphere and emotional character of a place.
Popovskyi graduated from Odesa University in 1976 and taught psychology until 2011. In 1995, he founded a laboratory for the psychology of art, connecting research into perception with his own painting practice.
Since 1995, he has participated in regional, national and international exhibitions. His works are held in private collections in Ukraine and Germany.
